چکیده

Spectral properties and performance of multi-pulse impulse radio ultra-wideband systems with pulse-based polarity randomization are analyzed. Instead of a single type of pulse transmitted in each frame, multiple types of pulses are considered, which is shown to reduce the effects of multiple-access interference. First, the spectral properties of a multipulse impulse radio system is investigated. It is shown that the power spectral density is the average of spectral contents of different pulse shapes. Then, approximate closed-form expressions for bit error probability of a multi-pulse impulse radio system are derived for RAKE receivers in asynchronous multiuser environments. The theoretical and simulation results indicate that impulse radio systems that are more robust against multiple-access interference than a “classical” impulse radio system can be designed with multiple types of ultra-wideband pulses.

UWB Impulse Radio Waveform Shaping Techniques for Narrow-Band Interference Rejection

-In ultra-wideband (UWB) impulse radio (IR) technology, it is important that the pulse shape be adjusted such that the power spectral characteristics not only satisfy the standard limits, but also be characterized by deep nulls at the locations of existing narrowband primary users. Cognitive Radio Technology (CR) is presented as a viable solution for UWB systems for narrowband interference supp...

Time Hopping Codes in Impulse Radio Multiple Access Communication Systems

In this paper, we address the problem of designing time hopping codes for multiple access communication impulse radio systems. Time hopping techniques are first reviewed, and performance in terms of correlation properties and Power Spectral Density are given. A new family of time hopping codes is presented, and performance are derived. Finally, advantages and disadvantages of different time hop...

Optimal Waveforms Design for Ultra-Wideband Impulse Radio Sensors

Ultra-wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) sensors should comply entirely with the regulatory spectral limits for elegant coexistence. Under this premise, it is desirable for UWB pulses to improve frequency utilization to guarantee the transmission reliability. Meanwhile, orthogonal waveform division multiple-access (WDMA) is significant to mitigate mutual interferences in UWB sensor networks. Motiv...

A Theoretical Study on the Effects of Timing Jitter on the Performance of Multiple Access Impulse Radio

In February of 2002, the FCC approved the use of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for commercial use. UWB has since been considered as a solution for the next generation of personal area networks (PANs) and wireless local area networks (WLANs). UWB (or impulse) radio employs short duration pulses to communicate, thereby spreading signal energy very “thinly” from DC to a few gigahertz [1]. The “u...
